Celebrating our School Farm!

SRG has become one of the first schools in the South West (first and only primary school in Cornwall so far) to be recognised for it’s important work in helping children learn about farming, food production and links to the environment and sustainability.

This term, we have achieved LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) Demonstration School Status Bronze Award. This is a great achievement and recognises the work we have done with children to learn about where food comes from, how to grow sustainably and our visits to local farms.

As a demonstration school, SRG are taking a lead on how to incorporate this important learning into the curriculum and personal development of our children – so important for their wellbeing now and into the future. On transition morning with their teachers for next year, children said what they would like to grow on their allotment ‘no-dig’ patch next year.

We celebrated the award with children from our Eco Committee and representatives from the after-school Eco Club with a photoshoot with Lisa from LEAF  – a commemorative shrub will be planted by children on the bank next to the playground in autumn.

A huge thank you to the parents on the farm committee and staff involved – the children benefit so much from the different ways in which they use our lovely farm.
