Landrake Run
On Friday 21st March 2025 at 1.30pm (registration from 12.15pm) the annual cross-country run for KS2 school children takes place at Sir Robert Geffery’s School, Landrake near Saltash. Between five and six hundred children from about thirty schools usually take part. The race will start from the main playground.
The course, some three ‘Cornish’ miles, is billed as the hardest, dirtiest, wettest but the most interesting in Cornwall. It starts and finishes at the school and takes in lanes, fields, woods, hills and a salt marsh. If you complete the course and are still dry, you’ve gone the wrong way! You are advised to bring something suitable for the journey home to sit on, eg. a bin liner.
Children must have had some training over a similar distance and be able to run most of the course. Only KS2 children should take part, as parts of the course are quite strenuous. St John Ambulance will be in attendance and the course will be marshalled and signed throughout its entire length.
If you wish to participate, please inform the school together with the number of children you expect to take part by Monday 3rd March 2025 at the latest, either by phone on 01752 851362 or by email to: admin@sir-robert-gefferys.cornwall.sch.uk.
Payment
A charge of £2.00 is requested for each entrant to cover expenses and to provide certificates and drinks for all participants.
Please could ONE adult from each school take responsibility for registration of the children running from your school. There will be additional refreshments on sale for spectators and parents. Parents and teachers are welcome to run, at no charge, with their children.
At the start of the race, a maximum of six children whom you consider your best may be at the front of your group with the youngest children immediately behind them down to Year 6 at the back. The first half mile is along a road, which will give everyone a chance to sort themselves out according to ability, before the course enters the fields.
As part of our risk assessment, please pass the following information on to the person responsible for your children attending the run. Prior to the race children must be briefed where to meet the designated adult in charge of them. Also, it is important that children bring a change of clothes to change into after the run has finished, especially if inclement weather is forecast. A plastic carrier bag is also useful to put wet clothes into.
Please note that due to the large numbers that attend (last year 550 children finished the course), there is no parking at the school. Parking is limited within the village, so if you were able to share transport this would be helpful. There will be a designated parking in a field on the northern side of the village off the main A38. It will take approximately 10 minutes to walk from here to the race start. The post code for this is Landrake Moto Parc, West Lane Saltash PL12 5EP.
There are no changing facilities; toilet facilities are available.
Any further details, especially from schools who have not participated before, please contact the school – telephone 01752 851362.
