At SRG, we pride ourselves on offering a wide variety of opportunities for all children across the Arts. In our Evening of Music extravaganza this Monday for example, over 40 children played independent pieces on the piano and our extra-curricular children’s choir performed beautifully, including a few hearty sea shanties.
Children in Years 5 and 6 have been looking at the artist Kurt Jackson in their Art curriculum lessons. They have been creating abstract seascape collages showing influence of colour, texture and composition found in the artist’s work.
They have been focusing on colour mixing and mark-making techniques, have used mixed-media and a range of tools to create texture in the paint. Attached are some examples of the children’s work.
We have also created a new area within the school – the ‘SRG Gallery’ – where children constantly look at and praise each other’s work. It changes regularly and currently has some beautiful depictions of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers – the YEar 6 children were amazed when they saw one of the artist’s actual pieces in their visit to The National Gallery, London, during their legendary week-long trip to London last week!
