Last Friday, 642 children faced one of the toughest sporting challenges of the year, as they took on the legendary Landrake Run. The three-mile cross-country course, which winds through steep hills and muddy marshland, tested the endurance and determination of the young KS2 participants.
The event, now in its 40th year, brought together children from 37 local primary schools to compete in one of the most anticipated sporting events on the school calendar.
Organised by local runner Helen Ralph, the run has become something of a tradition for SRG, promoting fitness, resilience, and a love for outdoor challenges. “It’s always a highlight of the school year,” said Headteacher Mr Ed O’Hara. “The enthusiasm from the children, staff, and volunteers is unmatched, and it’s great to see so many primary schools come together for such an exciting event.”
Thank you to Helen for your organisational skills as well as the local farmers who gave permission to use their land; the many parent and local resident volunteers who marshalled and organised car parking; the Friends who provided refreshments to the hundreds of visitors and of course the school staff that ran or stayed to cheer everyone across the finish line.
