This afternoon, we were thrilled to welcome children’s author Clare Helen Welsh to our school as part of her Author in Residence tour around Cornwall.
Clare is currently working on an exciting new book, set in a school — and the story begins on a farm! So where better to gather inspiration than our very own school farm? Clare spent some peaceful time in the stables, surrounded by animals, jotting down ideas. We think she might have taken a shine to one of our favourite residents… Could there be a donkey called Polly in her next story?
During a special whole school assembly, Clare shared her ideas and writing process with us. Some of our younger children even took a trip down to the farm afterwards, brimming with inspiration to start writing their own stories.
Two of our fantastic Year 6 pupils proudly told Clare all about the work we’ve been doing on the farm — from growing vegetables and composting to animal care. She was especially impressed by our Farm Committee and the way children, staff, and families all work together to keep the farm running.
Thank you, Clare, for spending the afternoon with us. We hope you found plenty of inspiration on our brilliant school grounds — we can’t wait to read the finished book next year!
