In June, we were able to offer our traditional residential trip to London to our group of Year 6 children. We build towards this legendary trip over the children’s time here at SRG … from local day trips for the little children to increasingly challenging curriculum visits to site such as the Merrivale centre for local history and the Eden project for geography. Also, our residential programme begins in Year 3 with one night at a cottage in Dartmoor; Year 4 do a one night stay near Dartmouth and Year 5 two nights at a PGL activity centre in Devon. We find that children personal development is supported so well by these experiences that build independence, teamwork, resilience and confidence.
In London, our Year 6 children really rose to the challenge and were such amazing ambassadors for our school on their week-long residential. They enjoyed a tour of St Paul’s Cathedral and sat in the Quires to hear Evensong; delighted in a feast at The Ironmongers Hall; learnt so much in the Natural History and Science museums; built teamwork skills over a day of water sports at the YHA centre and even fit in a cruise on the Thames and trip up the London Eye!
The Dean at St Pauls, Ironmongers and various members of the public commended them on their excellent behaviour and engagement and enthusiasm in learning.
We gave a special round of applause to the children in Year 6 when they returned as they were so fantastic on their week-long adventure to the capital city. They supported each other with care and friendship and really lived out our school values – well done Year 6!
