There was excitement, laughter and a touch of shiny magic at SRG this World Book Day, as pupils celebrated their love of a good book by dressing as their favourite book characters!
Throughout the day, we held a variety of book-themed events – children enjoyed a ‘Book Bistro’ experience, where they could choose from a menu and sample a taste of a new book, write reviews and recommend titles to their friends; EYFS voted in a ballot to choose the class story for the end of the day; our Year 6 children paired up with Year 1 pupils to read to each other and even Forest School sessions got involved by holding a Gruffalo hunt on the nature trail.
To finish the day in true SRG style, children lined the playground to purchase a ‘Polly’s Wonky Donkey Chocolate Bar!’ Inspired by our very own school farm donkey, Polly, the special edition chocolate bars were created as part of a fundraising event by The Friends and Farm Committees to celebrate the love of reading. Each bar came with the exciting possibility of finding a coveted shiny yellow ticket inside, with ten lucky winners receiving a book voucher prize. Polly herself even made an appearance!
From Witches and Where’s Wally’s to Superheroes and even huge inflatable animals, the colourful costumes and very special guest made for a wonderful World Book Day to remember.
Mr O’Hara even featured on BBC Radio Cornwall – have a listen below!
